No wonder so many people send me e-mails asking why they have to invest a few dollars in a legitimate opportunity. Take for instance a business that I have recommended before on this income opportunity blog… The brain child of Tissa Godavitarne a self proclaimed “non guru” What is his business? Unknown too many people is that the information posted on this blog is not just a random monetization effort by me. No – I actually test various business opportunities, MLM, affiliate marketing programs and other ways to make money online. Separating fact from fiction, real opportunities from scam. Why can't I make Money Online?

This is a very interesting question that people ask often. the truth is people make money online every day. There is no reason why you can't do the same. think about it like this. Many people don't make money offline - that is right they are generally referred to as the unemployed. The Internet is not some magical money machine. When it comes to making money online there are online jobs that pay set amounts of money for a service, like taking a survey or typing etc.

There are also business opportunities like selling affiliate products or goods and services. To many times people join a business opportunity looking for a job. but online is just like offline. In general people get paid for what they know not what they do. Why do some people working an offline job make $65 an hour while other make $40, $25, $15 or even $7. It generally has to do with what you know.

That's why people go to school to learn enough to get paid a greater amount. Doctors and lawyers spend 8 rigorous years developing their knowledge to make hundreds of dollars an hour. The same rules apply online. If you have little knowledge and attempt to get rich online it is likely that you will be disappointed and be one of the people yelling scam at very legitimate opportunities.

We are an inpatient people. We think if we can't be making a thousand a week inside of 30 days the business if a scam, joke or unobtainable. The reality is that that kind of thinking is JOB thinking not business thinking. Amazon lost money for 8 years before it turned its first profit. That is business, looking long term at a business viability and profitability.

I personally have been 3 months, 9 month and over a year in some of the businesses I started before I enjoyed the fruits of my labor. If you are saying to yourself you can't wait that long then you should not be looking for the make money online business opportunity at this time you should be looking for a job. Get a job and invest in learning to be skilled at online marketing and ease your way into a business knowing that "get Rick Quick" does not exist and if you do this you will find that you are much more capable of making money online.

People who fail to plan plan to fail. It is the same way with income opportunities. It doesn't matter if it affiliate marketing, multi level marketing, Internet marketing or a regular brick and mortar business. Planning is critical and separates the successful from the unsuccessful. Planning challenges you to go beyond yourself and step out of your comfort level to excel.

I have been in business for over 20 years and many of those as a consultant. Over the last ten years I have been in the Internet marketing - online business opportunity side and seen hundreds of poor business, scams and rip offs... i have even seen people make money in these losers simply because they planed and set goals. Ultimately the companies failed taking with it the unreceived profits but the point remains made - a plan can make you successful no matter how bad the opportunity is.

Wow 15 Minutes of Fame!

They say that everybody will have their 15 minutes of fame. I guess I'm getting another dose. I have been on TV and Radio, a successful business owner and spoken before large crowds of people. People seek me out for my advice and this I don't consider unusual since it has been a norm for many years. I’ve had some experience in investing in sticks. It is not a main investment for me but I use it for dollar cost averaging and diversification. If I get a 10% return on my money I’m extremely happy and jumping up and down at 12%. It is the whole rule of 72 thing… but enough with stock!

I guess I’m just dumb founded...

People come to me for advice all the time, why? That’s the business I’m in, Consulting. I started my first consulting business in 1988 helping struggling and bankrupt companies. I used this business to start my first of 3 computer stores. What gets me is that when I give advice that cost people nothing they seem to do nothing (or little) with it. I give the same or similar advice to clients I’m charging a ton and they implement it... Go Figure!

Multiple Opportunities at the Same Time

Here is a question I get every now and then:

"Should I be working multiple opportunities at the same time?"

This is a very good question and can't be answered with a yes or no. The reason why is that it really depends and a number of factors:

1. Your available time

2. Your available financial resources

3. Your ability to manage multiple projects

I made a decision several years ago to work multiple opportunities where it was in my best interest. I don't jump into just any opportunity that comes along. I look for vertical markets that are different for current projects I'm working unless I can see a very valuable reason to have two competing products in the same vertical market. I think buying as many of the goods and services that you use from yourself is a good idea especially if there is a potential to earn income. Take for instance a nutrition company that I'm an affiliate with TriVita. Now there are many companies competing in this market but as an athlete I find that their products provide my body with what is need to compete at the level I demand (my wife finds the same results). Since TriVita is a cooperative sales company it means less work for me to build the business than other companies I have been with in years gone by. Yes you always pay more for the MLM opportunity but I have yet to get a check in the mail from the local health food stor when I buy something. The checks from TriVita come regular. This is a win - win and the chances of getting me into another company in this market is slim to none.

I say evaluate your abilities based on the 3 factors above before falling for a slick sales pitch of Great Riches with no work, no money down and nothing a month.

There are volumes of information and ideas for how you can make some $$$ (income opportunity). I know because I have been in business in some form or another since 1980. I have sold and serviced widgets and mlm’d…. but very few of the opportunities I have been involved with produced decent revenues with moderate effort (one of the best went out of business in about 1997). Income Opportunity Top Pick List

Ok. So I did it, I committed to making some picks as to my top income opportunities. Now this is not going to include income opportunities like real-estate or brick and mortar opportunities. For instance I own a jewelry business, rentals houses and an Internet Marketing company (ok ½ owner as my son has taken over half the business) but they are not part of the list. So let’s get started.

This list does not just focus on the amount of money I have earned from an opportunity. The reason for this is because what I have earned is no reflection on what you will earn. In the past I have signed up for opportunities because of what a friend was making, only to find out that the requirements, commitments and $ investment were not a fit for me and I did very little with the opportunity.

Since space is short I’m going to limit today’s blog to 3 picks. My criteria for making this list includes: $ investment (5 low 1 high); time investment (5 little 1 a-lot); earning potential (1 low 5 high) and ease of use (5 easy 1 hard).

You may wonder why I got out, I spent 4 years running a legal and compliance office for a financial company, so I have some experience and connections. With that said I’ve been researching adding a financial mlm to my "income streams" for about 2 years that is connected with PPL. I get asked on a regular basis what opportunities I rate highest and which ones I would consider if I were looking for my first business opportunity? In this blog I’m not going to give my top picks, I will do that in one of next writings.
I have written in the past about various online opportunities that are providing many people with residual income. Today I want to focus on a methodology. In my younger years I did not take this approach; I was always taught to focus on “one thing” and do it to your best ability. I have made considerable amounts of money doing that, the only problem is this approach is not economy proof.

Myth: All the income opportunities on the Internet are gone!

I have been writing web pages for 13 years and it is funny how things change and yet stay the same. It used to be that business people would tell me that the internet was not a good medium (pre-dot-com boom). When I would meet business owners as a consultant at the time, many small business owners could not see the potential.
However those who were forward thinking made a lot of money from the dot-com boom and some well positioned innovators survived the dot-com bust.
Today it is a different environment than it was 10 years ago. The time of getting top Yahoo & Google rankings for free and with little work are gone. There are scams out there that guarantee top billing in 24 hours but in general these services lead to getting you black listed.

There is without a doubt opportunity on the Internet for those who think outside the box. Volatility vs Opportunity

Can you really believe the ups and downs (volatility) of the NYS (New York Stock Exchange)? I was checking my accounts and looking at the fancy colored graphs that looked like the Himalayan Mountain range; one day up and one day down. Now I’ve never seen day-trading as a steady Income Opportunity, rather I feel the stock markets are long term investment and in general are good investments using dollar cost averaging as part of a diversified financial portfolio.
When I look for income opportunities I look for opportunities that I play an active and controlling role in. For instance, I have owned brick and mortar retail stores and in general my actions dictated profits (or losses). Not like the actions of some friends during the dot-com boom who were “experts” and made lots of money during the window of opportunity. When the bust happened many lost it all… I was talking to friend who was an “expert” in income opportunity via the stock market years 2002 – 2005. He told me that he lost $400,000 when the market tanked – that is not my idea of a controllable business opportunity and the income opportunity I try to hedge against!

With the economy worsening and now in some states reaching unemployment of over 10% in many states it appears that the Carter years are back. Not since President Jimmy Carter have we seen the financial issues that exist today.
One thing remains the same in any financial crisis; do the opposite of what the masses are doing. What are people all over the US and world doing - complaining and living in fear. However this is a time of opportunity for those who cease it.
Residual income opportunities abound and give the average person to earn supplemental income or the ability to build a work from home business.
Other than Real-Estate, Residual, MLM, Cooperative Marketing and the like have made more self made (financially) people than any other method. Maybe it's your turn to use the financial crisis to make APPLESAUCE.
